Where flying at mach 0.56 (430mph) at 5000 feet and still descending, as we continued to slow down the engine noise and power got less but according to the mach meters the rate of decent had increased as I think gravity took over and gravity was pulling us rapidly towards the ground.

As we continued our decent the atmosphere and feeling in the cabin was still happy but it had gone from a relaxed party type thing at mach 2, to now a more sedate, quieter  and “accepting its nearly all over“ thing as people where not talking or laughing as much as they where during the period starting from the Concorde lounge at Heathrow to the end of mach 2 flight.

It was now just a case of sitting tight, being quite, savouring the last precious and wonderful moments of this flight and trying to absorb as much as you can because you know she will never fly again so this really were the last moments of her life before she went to the knackers yard (museum) to be used as  glorified “life size model ” of a mighty plane which once flew at mach 2………..

As we got lower and lower the out side air temperature had gone from being below freezing in centigrade with minus numbers displayed a few minutes ago to now being above freezing with plus numbers displayed in centigrade, the closer we got to the ground the more the outside air temperature continued to climb.

Just before we landed at JFK the mach meters changed format from

:-

Mach

Number

Height

In

Feet

Outside Air

Temperature in

Centigrade

Speed

In

MPH

To

:-

These are photos from my flight of the mach meters in there before and after formats.
