Co-pilot James Bedforth (in a giggly happy voice)

:-

London ATC

:-

Speedbird Concorde one cleared to the acceleration  point and to accelerate  after the fix.

London ATC

:-

Speedbird Concorde 1 cleared to accelerate…….

{                                                                                                                  }

{  London ATC had given Concorde permission to accelerate to mach 1 }

{                                 and brake the sound barrier.                                    }

{                                                                                                                 }

Captain Mills (in happy voice)

:-

Only joking, cleared to the accelerate and accelerate after.... although I'm sure Bristol wouldn't mind

Please note

:-

In  Dec 2003 when  I started writing the original trip report  I had all the original ATC from my flight…..But over the years due to computer hackers and many viruses wrecking my PC I lost a lot of those recordings (including  the 4 lines of chat above between my pilots and ATC)…… The above 4 lines where real and when I wrote the original trip report those 4 lines of chat existed…… In Feb 2008 when I started converting the trip report in to this website I spent 6 months trying to find the above 4 lines but no matter what I did, no matter where I looked I couldn’t find them any where ........ I feel gutted about it loosing them........ but that’s life.

Braking the Sound Barrier

Subsonic        Mach 1.7

7.15pm

15 minutes in to the flight we where still gently but rapidly climbing and accelerating out towards the south west coast of Ireland and onwards to the deep North Atlantic……Currently we where flying over Bristol at mach 0.95 (650 mph) at 20,000ft, the temperature outside our plane was -47C.

We where now flying 100 mph faster than any subsonic plane including the Boeing 747, Airbus A340, Boeing 777 and the future Airbus A380…… These planes run out of steam at around 550 mph, they can’t go any faster but  to Concorde this was like a slow walk in the park on a sunny day as Concorde “cruised “ 2 ¼ times faster than this at 1,320 mph and at flew at 58,000 ft (2 ¼ times higher than the cruising height of subsonic planes).
